Another Problem With Sig

ive been tryin to get that samuri sigs sword to shine using the gradient tool but one part of the tutorial ask me to make some kind of black background with white line which i tryed but couldnt make could someone help me.

1. Grab the gradient tool.
2. Make sure you have linear gradient selected.
3. Click and drag a short distance.

 

I assume your near step 7?? - Create a new layer, Fill it in with black. Select thr gradient tool & select linear - Make a small line by holding the left button and moving it a lil bit. If the colour not right you can choose that by pressing ctrl+U i think it was. Thats how u mke the line part hopefully if not add me ill help
